LoRaWAN connects the mats through gateways rather than tenants’ WiFi. Before installation, agree the network coverage, monitoring setup and who will act on an alarm. Confirm gateway provision and connectivity for the actual building.

Start with one building
Use an initial building to check coverage, installation requirements and the team’s response process before planning a wider rollout.

Agree how gateways and network connectivity will be provided. The LoRaWAN mats do not use tenants’ WiFi.

Plan how each mat will be associated with its property and installation location, so the team knows where to investigate an alarm.

RISE type approval C901469 under certification rule CR 139, issued 18 March 2026 — the first connected water alarm in Sweden to hold one. It lies flat under the dishwasher, the fridge, or in the sink cabinet, and senses across the whole mat instead of at a single point, so a drip is found where it falls. The approval covers either WiFi or LoRaWAN communication. RISE is Sweden's national research institute and an accredited certification body.

What a kitchen leak costs, in writing.
Before you put mats in four hundred kitchens, it helps to have the numbers in front of you: what slow leaks cost, what an association carries, and what the payback looks like.
- A drop a second is about 25 litres a day, and soaked chipboard has roughly a fortnight before mould starts.
- Around 300,000 water damages a year at Nordic insurers. The kitchen is now the room where most of them happen.
- For a housing association: an excess of one to five price base amounts per claim, and a payback just under two years.

Does every apartment need WiFi?
The LoRaWAN model uses gateways rather than tenants’ WiFi. Gateway coverage and network connectivity still need to be confirmed for the building.
Who responds when water is detected?
Agree the recipients and response arrangements for your deployment. Detecting a leak is one step; someone also needs to investigate it and arrange action.
Does the mat shut off the water?
The mat detects water and sends an alarm. It does not itself shut off the water supply. If the project needs automatic shutoff, discuss that requirement separately.
