Sweden's kitchen installation rule now calls for a certified leak alarm
Since 1 January 2026, Säker Vatteninstallation 2026:1 requires a moisture sensor under the sink and the dishwasher, connected to a leak breaker, water shut-off or water alarm approved under CR 139.
Säker Vatteninstallation 2026:1, the Swedish plumbing industry's installation rule, has applied since 1 January 2026. Its chapter on kitchens requires the waterproof insert or drip tray under the sink and under the dishwasher to carry a moisture sensor, connected to a leak breaker, water shut-off or water alarm that either cuts the tap water supply or raises the alarm about a leak.
The rule also sets a product requirement: leak breakers, water shut-offs and water alarms must be approved under CR 139, RISE's certification rule for type approval. A moisture sensor on its own, or an alarm without that approval, does not meet 2026:1.
These are industry rules rather than law, but they are how the industry demonstrates that an installation meets the Swedish building regulations and the Consumer Services Act's requirement for professional workmanship. Most insurers also require an installation built to the rule as a condition for water-damage compensation.
For kitchen companies and installers the practical effect is that a new kitchen, a renovation, and in many cases even a new tap or dishwasher, now has to include a sensor and an approved alarm in the specification. Dripspy holds RISE type approval C901469 under CR 139, and Säker Vatten has accepted Elementric's installation instructions under 2026:1.

RISE grants Dripspy type approval C901469 under CR 139
RISE issued type approval C901469 for the Dripspy leak mat on 18 March 2026, valid until 17 March 2031 and covering both the WiFi and the LoRaWAN version.
On 18 March 2026 RISE, Sweden's national research institute and an accredited certification body, granted Elementric type approval C901469 under certification rule CR 139. The approval is valid until 17 March 2031 and covers the Dripspy mat with either WiFi or LoRaWAN communication.

The approval comes with a decision on manufacturing control, which means RISE checks the production itself and not only a submitted test sample.
CR 139 is the approval that Säker Vatteninstallation 2026:1 points to for leak breakers, water shut-offs and water alarms in kitchens. Several products from different manufacturers hold approval under it. The certificate can be viewed at cert.ri.se under C901469.

Every Dripspy mat is designed in Sweden and produced by Elementric's own Polish company in Kraków, with the production itself covered by the RISE type approval.
Dripspy is designed in Sweden and produced in Kraków, Poland. Production runs through Elementric P.S.A., the group's Polish company at Grzegórzecka 8/2 in Kraków, rather than through a contract manufacturer at arm's length.
Keeping design and production inside the group matters for a product whose sensing element is the textile itself. The whole mat surface has to detect water on contact, consistently enough that about five drops raise an alert, and that is a manufacturing property as much as a design one.
The RISE type approval C901469 was issued with a decision on manufacturing control, so the approval covers how the mats are made, not only how one sample performed in the laboratory.

Länsförsäkringar companies in several Swedish regions hand out Dripspy mats to their customers free of charge, as a way of preventing kitchen water damage rather than paying for it afterwards.

The reasoning is straightforward. About a third of water damage in Swedish homes starts in the kitchen, most of it from white goods that are often less than ten years old, according to RISE. A mat under the sink, the dishwasher or the fridge costs a fraction of what a damaged kitchen costs to put right, and the drips that do the damage are usually too slow to be noticed by anyone living there.
The clearest public example is Dalarna, where Dalarnas Försäkringsbolag has handed out mats together with local partners, including in housing cooperatives.
